DELTIC MEMORIES

DELTIC DIESELS IN AND AROUND KINGS CROSS ON April 29th 1976

DELTIC Class Diesel No. 55016 'Gordon Highlander'

Kings Cross Was Not The Easiest Of Places In Which To Re-Position Or Re-Fuel, And Much To-ing And Fro-ing Took Place To Either Reach The Refuelling Depot To The West Of The Station, Or Re-Cross The Several Running Lines After Doing So. 55016 Is Captured Here Whilst Engaging In This Practice

DELTIC Class Diesel No. 55020 'Nimbus'

Also In The Process Of Shuttling Back And Forth To Gain Access To The Re-Fuelling Point Nimbus Gleams In The Spring Sunshine.

DELTIC Class Diesel No. 55007 'Pinza'

Pinza Starts A Scottish Express Away From The Platform Whilst A Compatriot Heads For The Re-Fuelling Depot.

DELTIC Class Diesel No. 55008 'The Green Howards'

Gateshead Based 55008 Moves Towards Gasworks Tunnel Doing A Bit Of Fro-ing, Before To-ing Back Towards The Re-fuelling Depot.

DELTIC Class Diesel No. 55013 'The Black Watch'

Another Of These Mighty Locomotives Is Captured Threading His Way Back And Forth To Slake His Thirst For Fuel. This Time 55013 Runs Towards The Gaping Mouth Of Gasworks Tunnel.

DELTIC Class Diesel

An Unidentified Deltic Brings An Up Express Into Kings Cross In 1976. I am told she might be 55008 Green Howards, As the nameplate is slightly lower on the bodyside. (I'm grateful for the information supplied by Simon Lilley)

DELTIC Class Diesel

Destined To Be The Last Photograph I Ever Took Of A Deltic In Action, Here We See An Unidentified Example Running Light Bound For Finsbury Park Depot, He Has Just Passed The Former Site Of The Famous Belle Isle Signal Box On Holloway Bank, And Is About To Plunge Into Holloway Tunnel.
