No. 30448 'Sir Tristram'
Working from his home shed of Salisbury, 'Sir Tristram' brings an up semi-fast through Wimbledon in June 1960. No.30448 soldiered on until withdrawal in August 1960. He was cut up at Eastleigh Works in September 1960.

No.30453 'King Arthur'
The date is January 2nd 1961, and the place Exeter Central. 'King Arthur' was a reliable old beast and when withdrawn in July 1961 was placed in store at Eastleigh pending a decision as to his possible preservation as part of the National Collection. Sadly it was not to be and 30453 went to the cutters in October 1961, after 'Sir Lamiel' became the favourite for preservation.

No.30777 'Sir Lamiel'
A study of the locomotive that did make it into the National Collection No. 30777 'Sir Lamiel'. Here taking a summer extra express for Salisbury and the West Country through Wimbledon in June 1960. Withdrawn in October 1961 He was considered to be in better condition than 30453 and subsequently put by for preservation.

No.30798 'Sir Hectimere'
Formally a 6 wheeled tender version of this famous class, and clearly showing the mis-match of height, at the base of the cab, when paired with the standard Urie 8 wheeled variety. 'Sir Hectimere' was by far the most commonly used and widely seen of the old 'Arthurs' in their final two years in traffic. Purported 'collision damage' determined his withdrawal in June 1962.

No.30799 'Sir Ironside'
A run up to London behind 'Sir Ironside' still fitted with a 6 wheeled tender. This 1960 photo portrays his post transfer days on the Western Section of the Southern. For many years a 73B Bricklayers Arms engine, (together with 30800, transferred across in May 1959) he found himself at Salisbury shed and worked from there until withdrawal, surplus to requirements, in February 1961. He was cut up in Eastleigh Works in April 1961.

No.30803 'Sir Harry Le Fise Lake'
Another summer Bournemouth extra running through Wimbledon in 1960, this time under the care of 'Sir Harry Le Fise Lake'. An Eastleigh engine since May 1959, 30803 also saw out the summer 1961 season before his demise.

No.30806 'Sir Galleron'
Once the only named engine of Hither Green 73C shed (for regular use on an evening commuter train from Canon Street) 30806 was cossetted and pampered by the shed staff there, and was almost always to be seen in immaculate condition. Upon the completion of the Kent Coast electrification scheme in 1959 he was transferred to Eastleigh for the rest of his working life, and in this picture is still seen in reasonable condition in June 1960. He was withdrawn from his home shed and taken to the works in April 1961, where he was cut up in June 1961.
